Safety first for those with the cycling bug
NDET 31-8-12 MC 8 Mike Blair with riding partner Julian Dobb, about to join a group of famous riders on a 1600km bicycle journey from Donington Park to the Marco Simoncelli Circuit at Misano, Italy, in memory of the late MotoGP star.
IN the wake of the Tour de France and the Olympics, cyclists are being urged to stay safe when riding on the roads.
Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership has issued a series of pointers to anybody who has caught the bug in a bid to keep them safe.
The main advice to riders is to have bicycles serviced regularly, wear fluorescent clothing and helmet that meets the British Standard, take a puncture repair kit on rides and most importantly – assume motorists haven’t seen you.
Partnership chairman Mike Ashworth said: “Cycling is an eco-friendly way to travel and a great way to keep fit – but there are risks involved and bikes are easy for drivers to miss.”
