Salute the memory

Flying officer John Clayton –who was a member of the Matlock Squadron Air Training Corps –is pictured here saluting the Pic Tor Cenotaph on Remembrance Day in 1954.

An abundance of people made their way up to the hilly cragg above Matlock Dale to show their respect to those who gave their lives.

Youngsters and adults alike are dressed in their ‘Sunday Best’ outfits for the occasion but look suitably humbled in the photograph.

In total, over 20 wreaths were laid by local organisations and the Last Post and Reville were sounded out by six members of Matlock Band.
