Scary goings on

Things that go bump in the night will be out in force as Hall Leys Park becomes the centre for Halloween celebrations.
Matlock Town Team has organised Matlock SpookFest to take place on October 27.
Town team members Wendy Spencer and Steven Murphy, of Little Gem, and Lisa Mctighe, of Fresh, came up with the idea after the Music in the Park event was cancelled earlier this year as a result of the bad weather.
Between noon and 8pm there will be live bands, a fair, apple bobbing and facepainting on offer.
Matlock Live will be on hand providing games to keep youngsters entertained and there will be a selection of great prizes to be won by children and adults who come in fancy dress, or bring carved pumpkins or scarecrows.
Wendy said: “We have got a big marquee so if it rains it will not be cancelled.
“We have 30 stalls and five food stalls.
“We plan to make it a yearly thing and hope it will get bigger and better every year.”
The Storyteller of the Year, Sam Aitken, will be there to spin a scary yarn or two and there will be hay bales for people to sit on.
Visitors may also see some of the trees glowing an eerie green.
Further information and updates about the event are available by visiting the ‘Matlock SpookFest’ page on Facebook.
