Shop volunteers dig deep for hospice

Wilkinsons staff have been digging deep to raise funds and flowers for Ashgate Hospice.

The Matlock team joined volunteers from ten Wilkinson stores across Derbsyhire and South Yorkshire who donated over 600 hours of their time to transform a neglected area of the hospice’s Victorian walled garden.

The 75 green-fingered volunteers raised the money needed for the materials and in just over two weeks created a relaxing sanctuary for patients and their families, complete with a patio and raised flower beds.

Using supplies donated by local building companies and garden centres, volunteers dug out the entire area, mix and laid 40 bags of cement and shifted more than 20 tonnes of stones. The teams also planted over 30 pots and several large flowerbeds.
