A Bakewell girl is returning home to help out a local charity.

Former Lady Manners School pupil Frances Gregory is due to appear in a concert of summer music to raise money for Bakewell–based charity Helen’s Trust, which supports terminally ill people.

The event takes place at Bakewell Town Hall on Friday, August 17 at 7.30pm.

Frances will be prforming with fellow soprano, Amy Fuller, and composer David Harrington.

The musical trio are to perform summer songs in an evening of light classical favourites and well loved popular music, arranged operatically by David.

Music from composers such as Mozart and Gershwin will be featured.

Frances has just completed her third year of training as a soprano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

She has been singing since appearing in primary school productions at St Anne’s School, in Baslow, and has been a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain (NYCGB) for eight years.

During this time she has sung at many of the country’s major venues and this summer she is performing in four proms at the Albert Hall in London with the NYCGB and the BBC Chorus of Wales.

Frances said: “The concert will be a mixture of classical pieces and popular music sung in a classical style.

“I decided to support Helen’s Trust because it’s a local charity and it’s a worth while cause.

“Whenever I’m asked to do concerts I always try to do them for charity as it’s an easy way of raising money for them.”

She wanted to dedicate the concert to her former music teacher at Lady Manners School, Richard Barnes, who passed away recently.

“He was a big inspiration to me,” she said.”

Tickets are £10 each and are available by calling Lynn Gregory on 01246 582525, emailing philip.a.gregory@btinternet.com or alternatively on the door.
