Six-figure lift for Bakewell Town Hall
After seven years of planning, a town hall is finally set to receive a £250,000 facelift.
The funding is secured and work has started on Bakewell Town Hall, which dates from the 1890s.
The renovations will include an overhaul of the roof and walls, upgraded toilet facilities for the disabled and the installation of a lift to improve access to the first floor.
Mayor Cllr Alyson Hill said: "These are exciting times for Bakewell Town Hall. I would like to thank councillors who have unstintingly given time and effort to see this project through.
"When it's complete, the town hall will have a new lease of life and the full potential of the building as Bakewell's premier community venue can be realised."
Cllr Pamela Russell said the project is an investment in the town's community and future.
She added: "A huge amount of unseen work has gone into the planning, and I am thrilled to see the work underway. This represents the biggest project undertaken by the town council for many years and I believe the benefits will be seen for decades to come".
The building will be used as usual as the work is undertaken.
