OFF-ROAD motorcyclists are set to make a return to the tarmac roads of the Peak District to protest against proposals which could ban them from 25 green lanes across the national park.

Motorcyclists of the Trail Riders Fellowship will be joined by 4x4 drivers in a series of ‘slow driving’ rides through Peak roads on October 21, November 25 and December 30.

The ‘Back to Tarmac’ days follow a day of action on August Bank Holiday Sunday which saw hundreds of motorcycles and 4x4s driving at speeds of 25mph around the national park’s roads – causing long traffic jams in the area.

A spokesman for the Trail Riders Fellowship said: “We enjoy pottering about the countryside, using legal unsurfaced rights-of-way on our bikes and in our 4x4s. If we can no longer enjoy this experience then we will recreate it on tarmac roads.”
