Snow will bring travel misery
WEATHER experts are predicting up to 10cm of snow could blanket parts of Derbyshire later today as the big freeze tightens its grip.
Derbyshire County Council gritters took to the county’s roads this morning after the Met Office issued a severe weather warning for snow for the East Midlands, which has suffered days of sub-zero temperatures.
The snow could cause widespread travel misery and commuters are being urged to check the weather forecast and traffic updates before making their journey.
This morning, Chesterfield FC said the club’s away game at Carlisle United FC will go ahead following a pitch inspection.
A Met Office spokesman said the wintry weather will be replaced by dry and frosty weather overnight into Sunday with ice expected to be an additional hazard in many areas tomorrow.
If you have any stories or take any pictures of the snow, we would like to hear from you for a possible story for next week’s paper. Post here, email comment@derbyshiretimes.co.uk or get in touch via Facebook or Twitter.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 07:28 AM1 - Beaurepaire, hyperbole is all the media can talk in nowadays. Everything has to be over-exaggerated in order to keep the public's attention. I think this is one of the reasons why people now cannot simply answer a question with the word 'Yes' - it has to be 'Absolutely!' Another reason for this manner of reporting is the fact the southeast, and in particular London, has had some snow. Therefore, it is imperative we have the plight of some poor Southerners having to walk in a couple of inches of snow rammed down our throats 24 hours a day. 2 - Flettie, I didn't know where Lightwood Road, Corbar Road and Lascelles Road are so I looked for them on Google Maps: it appears they are in Buxton. No disrespect to yourself but what is your comment doing on the Belper News site? I'm guessing it's yet another cock-up by the people who run the site.

Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 07:54 PMI could have exploded with anger and frustration at the pipeline works which have overwhelmingly compounded the the effects of the recent snows. The road closure on Lightwood Road 0402 today meant that dozens of people had to leave their cars in the town centre this evening as Corbar Road and Lascelles Road were too steep to traverse without a 4x4. Traffic congestion due to one lane being closed - again by the same pipeline works on Station Road meant that a trip to the town centre was a nightmare. How much longer do we have to put up with the disruption, the filth and the dis-amenity caused by these works to further the aims of Buxton Mineral water?

Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:48 AMA couple of days of frosts and we have 'the big freeze tightens its grip'. Spare us from the hyperbole that will be inflicted upon us if we ever have another winter like 1962-3 or 1981-2
