Chesterfield Fire station and Derbyshire Fire Service Engine

Fire officers are offering free services to reduce the number of blazes in the Derbyshire Dales.

Older people are six times more likely to die in a house fire caused by a faulty electric blanket.

With that in mind, firefighters will be offering free portable appliance testing (PAT) for electric blankets at Bakewell Fire Station on March 12 between 9.30am and 2pm.

They will also be giving away free fleece toppers on a first come first served bases to those aged over 60 or registered disabled.

Prior to testing, blanket owners will be required to sign an ‘acceptance form’ confirming they are happy for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to dispose of their blanket should it fail the PAT test.
