Still time to join in Pancake Day fun in the park

The pancake race planned for Matlock’s Hall Leys Park on Shrove Tuesday has so far attracted four teams.

The lunchtime fun is being organised by a group of the town’s traders led by the Cafe in the Park, the new launched Matlock Town Team and the Mercury.

We thought it would be a great idea to get some of the traders and firms in the town to join together for some Shrove Tuesday laughs and other traders jumped at the chance.

Kate Lane, who runs the Cafe in the Park, is hosting the flipping fun and so far we think the battle will be between, Haddon Hall, Matlock’s Town Team, the Farmers’ Market and the district council. We are still waiting to hear back from Sainsbury’s, the police, and the county council.

Kate is going to be providing the pancakes and she will also be laying on some warm drinks for the racers once it is all over.

All the racers have to do is bring a couple of frying pans per team of four and be prepared to run from the cafe to the bridge or back.

We are also asking everyone to bring some pennies along to donate towards the Jubilee Jam Jars fundraiser launched by the Mercury.

Mercury Editor Amanda Hatfield, said: “If it is well supported then we hope to make it an annual Pancakes in the Park event.”

If you want to enter a team email the Mercury at news@matlockmercury.co.uk or let us know on facebook.

If you can’t manage a team but want to join in the fun then just come along to watch. We aim to fit the whole event into a lunchtime so everyone can get back to work in the afternoon.

For any updates to the event follow our Facebook page, go online to www.matlockmercury.co.uk. We will let you know if the plans change.
