Suffering high street
DEMAND for retail space in the East Midlands fell even further last quarter as economic uncertainty continued to plague the high street.
In the three months to September, demand for retail premises continued to drop and interest has fallen for two consecutive quarters, according to a RICS UK report.
This was coupled with a continued upturn in unoccupied floor space, as a net balance of 33 per cent more surveyors in the region reported rises in availability – resulting in falling rental expectations.
Andrew Nichols, MRICS of Gadsby Orridge in Derby, said: “It has been a very quiet summer with little activity and confidence remaining low across the board. The lack of availability of finance remains a barrier.
