Coming face to face with a tarantula is are just one of the charity challenges a daredevil Dales fundraiser has set herself.

Rachel Buckley, from Cromford, is attempting to complete 30 challenges before turning 30 to raise funds for Sense, the charity that supports deafblind children and adults.

And the teacher’s toughest challenge will be letting a tarantula crawl over her in an event taking place at her school.

Rachel said: “I’ve always had a major spider-phobia, I’m hoping going for the biggest spider may get rid of my fears– failing that I know my students will get a kick out of watching me squeal!

“I chose Sense is because I’ve always been interested in the work the charity does. I’m hearing impaired myself – I wear a hearing aid in one ear, and have discovered just how much I rely on my sight.
