A fund–raising teen is going to extreme lengths to help those less fortunate – going without changing or washing her closes until she raises £2,000.

Sarah Howarth, of Wellington Street, Matlock, is taking on the task for an indefinate amount of time to raise money for Soul Action, a charity that helps some of the world’s poorest people in people such as Africa and India.

The 17–year–old will wear the same hoody, donated by Creation Studios, in Darley Dale, and will only change her underwear, pyjamas and shoes.

The only exception will be her sister’s wedding in May.

Sarah said: “I went to a Christian event during the ke ummer and they told us about the charity.

“When I got home I looked it up and just decided to do this.

“Usually people make slums out of metal and stay in them for a weekend to raise money.

“I couldn’t do that because of health concerns, so I did this instead. Noone else is doing it.”

The teenager is no stranger to charity work, having taken part in a sponsored sky dive with her sister, Mary, for the Cystic Fibrosis Trush last year.

Sarah suffers from cystic fibrosis and decided to support the charity after undergoing a lifealtering lung transplant, which relieved the effects of the illness on her respiratory system.

“I think a lot of people think what I am doing is a bit wierd at first, but then they think its a good idea,” Sarah continued.

A week into her challenge, she has already managed to raise around £180 towards her final total, but the marks on her once clean hoody are already starting to show.

“It’s got a couple of stains on,” Sarah said.

The Highfields School pupilplans to go to university when she has finished at sixth form and study interior, architecture and design.

Sarah will be collecting money as she goes, donations will also be collected in the Black Cat Cafe, in The Courtyard, off Dale Road, Matlock.
