Teenage volunteer wants to help others

A caring teen is hosting a fundraising Easter event in a bid to help poverty–stricken youngsters abroad.

Ally Le Carpentier will host a yard sale on March 30 and 31 at her home at Ivy House Farm, Flagg, to raise funds for underprivileged children in Vietnam

The 16–year–old, who studies at Chesterfield College, plans to travel to the country this summer to help children in Hanoi and Lang Son, teaching them English, arts, crafts and sports.

This will be the third time Ally has volunteered in Vietnam with the Global Volunteer Network as part of its youth programme.

She commented: “I really want to go back to see the kids. I really enjoy it out there, I’ve fallen in love with the country.”

Ally will also be caring for babies and helping disabled children with physiotherapy.

The yard sale will take place between 10am and 4pm over the two days. There will be stalls selling antiques and bric–a–brac, as well as hidden mini eggs and an animal petting area for youngsters.

Anyone wishing to donate clothes, toys or bric–a–brac to the cause can do so by leaving items at a ‘drop off point’ at the farm during the sale.

Ally gave her thanks to all the friends, family and businesses who have supported her in her fundraising so far.

“I would always recommend people to volunteer like this, even if it’s in England. It’s a really rewarding thing to do,” she added.
