Thousands of jobs could be created in the Derbyshire area under ambitious plans.

The Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has submitted an exciting growth plan to the Government which could see 70,000 jobs created across nine local authority areas – including Chesterfield, Bolsover, NE Derbyshire and the Derbyshire Dales – by 2023.

Cllr John Burrows, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, hailed the proposals.

He said: “As a member of the LEP, the borough council has been directly involved in forming the region’s growth plan.

“We did this to make sure the borough was included to its best advantage but also for the benefit of the wider region.

“We look forward to its successes.”

James Newman, chairman of the LEP, said its strategy would improve housing, transport, skills and create more and better jobs for the region’s 1.8m residents.

The LEP said its plan would give the region a £3bn boost over the next decade.

Diana Terris, of the LEP, said: “Our growth plan will ensure that the benefits can be felt by all part of the region, both urban and rural.”

Months of discussions with the Government are expected to follow Friday’s submission before details are finalised.
