Town rail stations receive cash boost

More than £1.5m has been spent on improvements to railway stations across Derbyshire over the last year.

Upgrades have been made to 23 stations including Alfreton and Matlock.

The improvements include new waiting shelters, new platform seating, extra cycle spaces and refurbished toilets and waiting rooms.

Phil Verster, route managing director for Network Rail, added: “Stations have a vital role to play in our communities.

“They are gateways to the towns and cities they serve and the first impression passengers have of our network.

“Over the past five years, passengers at 89 East Midlands Trains stations have benefited from improvements worth around £5.2m,” he added.
