Traders' group fails to attract members
THE CHAMBER of Trade in Bakewell has been put on ice due to lack of interest from businesses in the town.
Chairman Roger Lownsbrough was disappointed the group – which has worked to promote Bakewell and support its firms since being established in 2007 – had been unable to keep going.
Mr Lownsbrough said: "It's not exactly folded but I just haven't got time to do it and no-one has yet come forward to take over.
"As far as I'm concerned we'll put it on a moratorium and it's still there if anyone decides to pick up the baton, as I have all the details."
Attendance had been poor at meetings in recent months, making it difficult for the group to make progress on some of its key issues, such as car parking, toilets and promotion of the town.
Mr Lownsbrough added: "It's a pity as lots of our members were independent businesses and if ever there was a time they needed some kind of help it is now."
Anyone interested in running the chamber should contact Mr Lownsbrough at The Complete Cookshop in Bakewell.
