Trapped horse

Firefighters from Matlock and Ilkestone were called to free a horse after it became trapped in a ditch.

On Friday, October 19, at 8.30am crews were called to attend the incident which occurred behind the Denby Lodge public house, Denby.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the horse had fallen down a ditch – which was approximately seven feet deep – and could not escape.

In order to free the animal, crews used saws to remove branches over the ditch and the horse escaped of it’s own accord.
The owner was at the scene and a vet inspection confirmed the animal’s condition to be well. Firefighters left the scene at 9.10am.
