Locals have been given the chance to see first-hand the vital life-saving service provided by Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

As part of their celebrations to mark 50 years of service, the Buxton team is holding a series of four open days.

The first of these took place in the country park surrounding Buxton’s Poole’s Cavern on Easter Saturday.

Members were on hand to demonstrate some of the techniques which they regularly use to save lives in the countryside and hills of the High Peak and surrounding areas.

The remaining open days will be held at its rescue headquarters on Hallsteads, in Dove Holes, on June 17 from 7pm until 9pm; July 23, from 7pm until 9pm; and on August 23, from 2pm until 5pm.

To celebrate their 50-year milestone, the mountain rescue team has set themselves a fundraising challenge to raise £50,000 to purchase a new control vehicle.

To support the team, or for more information about the anniversary celebrations, see their website at www.buxtonmountainrescue.org.uk.
