VIDEO – Trials and tribulation for youngster

Waiting for Video...

ONE Dales youngster is riding high on the buzz of being a British trials motorcycle champion – one year since starting the sport.

Jamie Williams, of Bonsall, started riding at the tender age of 8-years-old and since then the youngster has trounced the competition to become the 2012 Luscombe Suzuki Leeds British Youth Trials Champion.

The various stages of the competition have taken the youngster – along with mum Claire McDowell and step-dad Thomas McDowell – to Devon, Scarborough, Vale of Towy, Northumberland and Bradford.

In these stages, Jamie scooped three first-prizes, two second-prizes, and a fourth place.

Owing to this Jamie – who rides under the name ‘Jimbou’ in honour of his trials riding hero Tony Bou – has scooped a collection of trophies and is awaiting his award ceremony for his latest victory this November.

Jamie said: “It was a really good feeling to win the competition because I’ve been practicing so hard for it.”

Thomas and Claire are so keen to support Jamie’s talent and have even gone to the length of turning the family’s back garden into a course for youngster to practice on.

Claire said: “Well, it used to be the football pitch before he got into riding and we’re happy to support him.”

For a full interview with Jimbou and his family check the website for updates and be sure to pick up a copy of the Mercury this Thursday.
