War–themed carnival for Dethick, Lea and Holloway

The Great War was the theme of a rural community’s annual celebration at the weekend.

Dethick, Lea, Lea Bridge and Holloway annual family carnival was held on Saturday.

Led by The Carnival Queen, Alissa Lonie, floats made their way to Lea Green with the first prize going to ‘The Tank’ driven by Years three and four from Lea Primary School.

At Lea Green, Alissa was crowned by Mike Taaffe–Finn, before she officially opened the carnival.

In the main arena there was a fancy dress competition and wartime races.

Spectators were then treated to some ferret racing followed by the inter village tug of war, in which the team from Holloway proved victorious.

Carnival Committee member Mike Taaffe-Finn said: “The committee would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who gave up there valuable time to support and attend the carnival.

“The carnival is an important local event with the money raised used to support the community, sport and educational groups within the villages.”
