Women turn Chesterfield into a sea of pink for Race for Life

Waiting for Video...

Hundreds of women turned the town pink yesterday to raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research as part of Chesterfield Race for Life.

Ladies of all ages took part in the event by either walking, running or jogging around the 5k town centre course.

The event started at Chesterfield Town Hall after a group warm up and finished off in Queen’s Park.

Helen Johnson, 44, said it was the first time she had ran Race for Life and would definitely do it again.

She added: “I ran in memory of a very good friend, a lovely lady no longer with us, and for the people I know fighting cancer right now.

“It was the first time I had done race for life and I was overwhelmed with the emotion of the day.

“We had a fantastic time and will definitely be there again next year. Well done to the pink ladies of Chesterfield!”

Amber Scott, 21, said she ran for family members who have just beaten – and are currently fighting – cancer.

She added: “I ran with my daughter, as I did last year.

“I ran it for my aunt, who passed away in 2008.

“I think Race for Life is an amazing thing to be part of – it is always so well run and has an amazing atmosphere.”
