Work is set to begin on a memorial garden in Chesterfield for parents and relatives to remember a child they have lost.

The new garden will be located in Boythorpe Cemetery, which is owned and maintained by Chesterfield Borough Council.

Staff from the council’s bereavement services staff have joined forces with members of Chesterfield Sands, the stillbirth and neo-natal death charity, in raising money to fund the garden.

Councillor Chris Ludlow, the council’s executive member for environment, said: “We have worked closely with Chesterfield Sands on the design of the garden to create a permanent and peaceful place for families to go and remember children they have lost.”

Nicky Whelan, chair of Chesterfield SANDS, added: “We are so excited to be opening Boythorpe Baby Garden.

“I know that the garden will help so many local families,” she added.

The garden will be officially opened at a ceremony on Sunday, June 8.
