Matlock Bath's Restoration Cafe broken into during cash machine theft attempt

Thieves broke into Matlock Bath's Restoration Cafe in the early hours of this morning in an attempt to break into a cash point which is housed in its wall.

Derbyshire Fire Service were called out to the Grand Pavilion, South Parade, at about 5am today, responding to a fire alarm.

They discovered a smashed rear window on the lower ground floor and plaster board had been damaged in the interior of the cafe.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said it was probable the offenders were targeting the cash machine.

A spokesman for the cafe’s trustees said they were shocked and upset but determined to re-open tomorrow.
