New year, new you
Heanor Mum Lisa Hands looked radiant after losing one and a half stones at her local Slimming World Group.
Lisa said: "I decided I needed help to lose weight as my asthma was really bad and I couldn't walk up the stairs without becoming breathless.
"I took the big step of joining my local Slimming World group. I was so nervous on my first night as I didn't know what to expect but my fears soon vanished when I received a warm welcome from my consultant Sarah and the rest of the group.
"The Food Optimising Plan is fantastic and so easy to follow. I love to cook and this plan gives you the opportunity to do this.
"Since joining the group I've bought every Slimming World cook book and am often called upon to provide tempting tasters for the rest of the group to try.
"A favourite for myself and the group are Onion Bhajis – who would have imagined you could lose weight and still eat these?"
One other advantage of joining a slimming group is often the friendships that are made between members.
Lisa said "During my first year at group I was put on steroids to help my asthma, this was a difficult time as the weight began creeping back on.
"I felt really low at times but if it hadn't been for the support I got from my new friends in the group I might have given up. They kept me motivated and gradually my asthma came under control and the weight began to come off again."
In May 2007 John proposed to Lisa. She said: "I bought my wedding dress eight years ago and gradually out grew it – setting the date spurred me on to get back into it and in November 2007 John and I finally tied the knot."
