Another victory for Wallwin in time trial

Roadworks meant that the last of this year’s Matlock Cycling Club ten-mile time-trials had to be cut short, making the route approximately eight miles in length.

The still and warm weather conditions meant it was one of the fastest nights of the year so it was unfortunate as times would no doubt have been quick.

Dave Wallwin notched up another victory, recording a time of 17 minutes and 51 seconds, but was made to work hard for it by the ever-improving Kevin White, who finished just nine seconds further back in second place.

One of the rides of the night came from Josh Eaton, who recorded a superb eighth place overall, finishing in a time of 20 minutes and 20 seconds.

Once again, Marianne Heffron was the fastest female finisher, recording a time of 22:06.

Heffron was the comfortable winner in this years Women’s Competition as she amassed 65 points from 5 rides, edging Mel Slaney in to second place with 54 points from the same number of events.

Thursday night’s 10.4-mile Long Hilly time-trial was also held in mild, pleasant conditions, meaning once again fast times for the riders who took to the start line.

Kevin White proved too strong for the rest of the field, including serial winner Chris Green, as he recorded another victory on the course with a superb time of 27 minutes and 41 seconds.

White was the only rider to go under 28 minutes, and Chris Green finished in second place some 21 seconds further back on 28:02.

Steve Heading came home third, setting a season’s best time of 28 minutes and 53 seconds.

In the overall time-trial points competition, Chris Green has a comfortable lead totalling 554 points from 31 events, with Gareth Ferguson in second place on 324 points.

Andrew Briggs is third with 307 points from 23 events, while Kevin White is fourth with 291 points from just 14 events.
