BUXTON Athletic Club paid tribute to local sporting legend, the late Norman Taylor, at the club’s Annual Presentation and Dinner.

Two new trophies were handed out at the presentation evening - the Norman Taylor Memorial Trophies for Most Improved Male and Most Improved Female.

These were kindly funded by Alan and Dawn Atkin, who have a long association with the club. Alan and Dawn, along with Norman’s son Richard and his partner Melanie, were honoured guests at the event.

It was most fitting that Richard awarded the trophies in his dad’s name to the winning athletes, Pete Bailey and Bev Golden.

Bev also won the prestigious title of female winner of the Annual Club Championships, while Rob White was the clear male winner.

One point separated second and third place in the female category, with Emma Havenhand taking second ahead of Emma Wentworth.

Mark Pursell was second in the male category and, still on a winning streak, Pete Bailey was third.

In the veteran categories, Simon Moorhouse and Sarah Guise topped the male and female categories respectively. Sarah also won the Fletcher Cup Trophy, a handicap race where being closest to your predicted time over the ten-mile distance makes you the winner.

Pete Bailey had a busy racing year and, along with Mark Pursell, shared the title of ‘Most Races Run’ in the Championships, both competing in 11 races during the year.

Mark Halsey was Fell Champion of the Year, while Paul McWha, a relative newcomer both to running and to the club, was awarded the Best Beginner Trophy, very well deserved.

Bev Golden proved just how much she has improved over the year by winning the ‘Most Improved Mile’ title, knocking an impressive 26 seconds off her first ‘Dream On Mile’ time.
