Bucks crash to home defeat against FC United
Buxton FC v FC United, San Duncum
Evo-Stik Premier Division
Buxton FC 0, FC United of Manchester 3
BUXTON FC crashed to their first league defeat in nine matches on Saturday as FC United of Manchester ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at the Silverlands.
Despite early chances for both Lee Morris and Scott Maxfield, it was the visitors who led after ten minutes when a quick break saw Jerome Wright cross for the unmarked Matthew Wolfenden on the right to fire home past debutant goalkeeper Craig Dootson.
Morris hit the woodwork for the Bucks on the stroke of half-time, but less than ten minutes after the restart Michael Norton doubled the Red Rebels’ advantage at the second time of asking, after Dootson had saved his initial effort one-handed.
The visitors continued to dominate possession, and Norton added their third goal just after the hour mark as he popped up among a stagnant Bucks defence to head home unopposed.
In injury time, Kieran Lugsden was denied by FC United’s James Spencer as the Bucks pushed for a consolation goal.
The result drops Buxton to eighth place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division table, while at the same time moving FC United into the play-off places.
The Bucks’ next game is away at Blyth Spartans next Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
