Buxton Amateur Boxing Club hosted their first show of the season in the spectacular venue of the Devonshire Dome.
The evening started badly when talented junior Giann Magno was forced to withdraw after his opponent hit the scales outside of the permitted weight allowance.
Making his home debut Josh Taylor has had a busy first season and his dedication and aptitude in the gym was apparent as he continually pushed his opponent backwards. Josh was too strong and was awarded a well earned points victory in front of large home support. Dec Butler, also making his home town debut, broke a thumb on the way to a close points loss.
Participating in only his second contest, Butler looked much improved from a solid first bout, demonstrating a promising start to his career. Josh Chapman was unlucky in his bout matched against a super skilful novice, forcing him to show guts to see the bell.
Cameron Atkinson boxed excellently and came up short on the scorecards in a bout that could have gone either way. Liam Sircar showed grit against a vastly more experienced opponent, losing on points.
The close decisions continued for Buxton ABC with Joe Lampard, Irvin Magno, Jordan Bennett and Liam Burke all losing 50/50 decisions on the cards. Adam Sircar stepped up at the last minute to box a far bigger opponent, losing – but demonstrating excellent heart at a category above his weight. Also operating largely outside his weight was Jon Pickering in the final contest, boxing excellently against a very experienced and capable opponent, moving off and firing shots from various angles to score through his opponent’s excellent defence. Pickering won on points.
A difficult night from a results perspective for Buxton, with a very high standard of boxing and competitive bouts.
