BASLOW Bowls Club has celebrated its 20th anniversary.

It is two decades since cutting the tape for the brand new crown green and clubhouse and, since then, Baslow Bowls Club has gone from strength to strength, attracting new members year on year.

The splendid crown green in a spectacular setting in the heart of Baslow, and a big warm welcome, is enough to keep attracting back old members and appealing to the new.

Club chairman John Agg said: “Our 20th anniversary marks a new era for our club as lots of younger people are interested in joining, which is great not only for the friendship it brings but also a bit of friendly banter and competition.

“We have players of all ages; our youngest is 23 and our eldest 93! It just shows that crown green bowling really is a sport for everyone, to enjoy keeping you fit at the same time. Beginners don’t have to worry about having any equipment, we have everything on hand to lend out to get started and there is lots of friendly tuition available. New members are always made to feel most welcome”.

The original clubhouse, christened the ‘teepee’ by founder members, opened in 1992 and was constructed out of the stone and slate from the old ice cream parlour in Buxton and forms part of the Baslow Sports Development Project. It has since been extended to enable the club to hold social events for members and visitors to enjoy the beautiful Derbyshire countryside.
