Comfortable win for U15s

RUGBY UNION

Matlock 38

Spalding 5

With a frosty morning on Cromford Meadows, Matlock welcomed the visitors from Lincolnshire with a superb performance in the NLD cup.

It all started from strong work by the forwards taking the ball into contact before quick hands along the back line found speedster Tom Lawrence out on the wing who had the pace to beat his opposite number and touch down under the posts with Sam Page slotting the extra two.

Spalding where not to be taken lightly with a big pack that kept Matlock in their own half but great defence from forwards and backs saw Matlock win the ball at the breakdown and drive for again find Lawrence out on the wing to score his second.

Back came Spalding with a penalty 15 metres out, they decide to play a set move which the referee viewed as an illegal move, strangely they where asked to take again, and from the retake they scored in the corner.

This only frustrated an already flowing Matlock side, straight back at them they went with Matlock’s opposite winger James Pooley scoring in the corner and Sam Page kicking the extras just before half time.

The second half Matlock carried on with Andrew Eastwood breaking tackles and scoring in the corner.

By now Spalding’s heads had started to drop, even when Spalding found themselves with an advantage of an extra man after a Matlock player had been yellow carded with nine minutes left on the clock Andrew Eastwood still crossed the line with the help of many of his team mates after they kept a rolling maul moving until he hit the deck to score. Sam Page added two more points.

Not content with this Matlock continued to push on with some excellent footwork by Will Molyinuex to score under the sticks and Page adding two more.
