Four-ted: Goal glut earns title

ROWSLEY 86 wrapped up the Midlands Regional Alliance Premier Division title with two 4-0 wins in the space of three days.

The first came away at a Ashover where Dans Wildgoose and Widdowson bagged a brace apiece.

That meant just a point was required at home to Long Eaton United Reserves on Saturday.

But Rowsley chose to romp over the line in the manner that saw them develop such a commanding lead earlier in the season when they won their first 13 league matches.

This time Wildgoose was joined on the score sheet by Nik Baker, Tim Baker and Mark Dickie.

The reliable Carl Moore and Craig Spencer scored for Wirksworth Town as Ashover, playing their fourth game in seven days, slumped to another local derby defeat on Saturday.

Mark Needham scored for Ashover.

Cromford suffered a 3-0 midweek defeat at Derby Rolls Royce Leisure and things didn’t look too good at half time on Saturday, 3-0 down at home to Castle Donington Town.

But Scott Gascoigne (two), Ady Kershaw, Steve Prime and Jonno Thompson all hit the net in an amazing second half turnaround to win 5-3.

Matlock Town Reserves, however, were beaten 1-0 by Willington.

In Division One, Matlock Sports were 2-1 winners at Bargate Rovers, with Will Eaton and George Whittaker scoring, but Woolley Moor United were again subjected to a heavy loss –7-0 at home to Mickleover RBL.

Last week’s Division Two table-toppers, Rowsley 86 Reserves, were held 1-1 at Swanwick Pentrich Road Reserves, with Daz Webster on target for Rowsley, and then lost 1-0 at Melbourne Dynamo Reserves at the weekend.

But a win on Saturday at Shirland should see them promoted.

High-flying Findern were 1-0 victors over fading Wirksworth Ivanhoe, but Josh Vallance and Jack Waddingham scored for Wirksworth Town Reserves in their 2-1 win over Hilton Harriers.

l IN Monday night’s matches, Rowsley 86 scored four more goals against Borrowash Victoria Reserves.

Dan Wildgoose, Tim Baker, Paul Froggatt and 16-year-old Mark Baker all netted in the 4-2 victory.

Wirksworth Town hit eight goals away at Belper United, with some help from Matlock Town.

Former Gladiator Gary Webster scored, as did current UniBond Leaguer Nathan Benger (two). Carl Moore also got a brace, and Richard Maskrey, James Newton and Andrew Annable added the others.

Ashover lost 2-0 at home to Melbourne Dynamo.

In Division Two, Jake Ross was on target for Wirksworth Town Reserves in a 3-1 defeat to Pastures Reserves.
