DALES primary schools have been at Highfields School in Matlock over the past fortnight for two cluster sports tournaments.

The tri golf event was won by the youngsters from Elton Primary and they will go on to the county finals at Matlock Golf Club on Wednesday, July 11.

There was also a double dose of rounders action, at Years 3-4 and Years 5-6 levels.

Both of these age groups were won by the teams from Lea Primary School.

Highfields pupils and staff are now gearing up for National Schools Sport Week, running from Monday, June 25 to Friday, June 29.

Monday itself is World Sport Day and will be marked with a visit to the school by England hockey player Charlotte Hartley.

She will be taking part in workshops and other activities with the pupils.

Then, Friday, June 29, is Olympic Torch Day with the school expecting a torch visit in the early afternon.

A host of activities are planned and guest of honour for the day is England women’s football captain Casey Stoney.
