League record is only just missed
Warren Slaney, second in the averages, in action at the Whitworth Centre, Darley Dale.

“Last night! History was made last night! Wait... er, no it wasn’t,” Warren Slaney uttered with a broad smile.
This was his reaction after this week’s narrow miss with creating a record in the Matlock Table Tennis League Division One.
Never before has any side in this division, to my knowledge anyway, won all ten sets in three straight games, but this is as near as you will ever get.
Playing at home against Cylinder Cougars A, Rowsley 08 won 10-0 but, more to the point, each set was won by 3-0, except for Geoff Gill who managed to pinch a game out of Jamie Smith, but it was mighty close to making the record.
Meanwhile, there is to be a coaching course at the Whitworth Academy, Darley Dale, run by Sam Perry, England’s top 40 player.
This has been arranged for Friday, February 17, running between 10am-3pm.
Be sure to book your place by contacting the Whitworth head coach Warren Slaney as soon as possible.
