LAST summer’s London Olympics and Paralympics will leave their mark on the High Peak after four community sports clubs secured legacy funding totalling nearly £200,000 from Sport England.

Hope Sports Club, High Peak Gymnastics Club, Glossop and District Golf Club and Hadfield St Andrews Cricket Club are among more than 1,000 sports projects across the country to benefit from the National Lottery funding.

High Peak Gymnastics Club has been awarded £49,993 to upgrade facilities at its Buxton gym.

The improvements will include a new sprung floor, two new sets of A bars, a single bar, rings, vault and vault run, pommel horse, trampoline, extra matting and new carpeting.

Head Coach Jo Coverley said: “We are thrilled to have been successful in getting such a large amount of money. It will make such a difference to everyone that attends the club.”

Hope Sports Club will receive £49,504 to help replace their ageing sports pavilion, which has been used by residents of the villages of Hope, Brough and Aston for sport and recreation for many years.

The new pavilion will allow the club, which was founded in 1944, to expand the numbers who can participate in sport and open opportunities for new sports groups to be developed in the area.

Club chairman Dave Critchlow said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our sports facilities to meet the standards expected by users in the 21st Century.

“It is the cornerstone of our strategy to increase the numbers of local residents participating in sport and to attract more regional and national events to the sports field for the 2012 Olympics’ legacy.”

Also receiving funding is Glossop and District Golf Club, who collect £50,000 to install drainage to a practice area and create six synthetic greens and a practice bunker.

Hadfield St Andrews Cricket Club benefit from £49,750 to extend its main building to house new changing rooms and toilets, and to extend its garage to increase storage.
