Minis take it to the max

THE tenth annual Matlock Rugby Club Mini Festival continues to draw competitors from far and wide and will be held this year at the club’s Cromford Meadows home on Sunday, April 29.

A total of 19 clubs will be represented with 95 teams involved, ranging from under sevens to under 12s levels.

The clubs include Ashbourne, Bakewell, Chesterfield, Marple, Dronfield, Matlock and Melbourne from Derbyshire, and the likes of Harrogate, Southwell and West Park Leeds from further afield.

Organiser John Bance estimates there will be around 1,100 youngsters between the ages of 6-12 playing on the day.

He added: “The festival’s reputation has spread purely through word of mouth, to the extent that we are attracting teams from so far away that the RFU classes it as a national event! There are a number of touring teams involved and we are all hopeful of it being a success once again.”

Matches start at 10am.
