TWO of Buxton Hitmen’s 2012 squad have pledged their immediate future to the club ahead of the new season.
Adam McKinna and fans’ favourite Ryan Blacklock will join the experienced Tony Atkin and newcomers Tyler Govier and Matt Williamson in the 2013 Buxton side.
McKinna, a Newcastle asset, was the Hitmen’s top points scorer in 2012, despite being a late addition to the team following the departure of Tim Webster.
He said: “I’m over the moon to be back at Buxton for a second season. Last season was up and down for me but I enjoyed it all the way through.”
Hitmen Boss Jayne Moss said: “It didn’t take long for Adam to agree to return for a second season and we are pleased to have him back in the side.
“Our thanks also go to Newcastle who readily gave their permission to continue racing at Buxton.”
Blacklock was one of the first names on the season’s ‘wish list’ and quickly agreed to stay at High Edge.
“I’m really pleased to have the opportunity to be back with the Hitmen for a third season in a row,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to riding alongside some new faces, especially Tony (Atkin), and hope he can show me and the other lads some stuff.
“I hope I can make a big impact on the team this year and progress on my point scoring.
“It’s great to be back with a great team and awesome fans who have stuck by me for the last two seasons.”
Moss added: “Ryan has come a long way since he rode his first meeting for us as a raw novice at Dudley in 2011 and it has been great for the club and its spectators to watch his progress.
“He had some good scores for us last year and featured in the nominated riders heat a few times.
“We are hoping he can build on that and consolidate his position in the main body of the team whilst improving his average.”
• Eight teams will line-up in the National League in 2013, with newcomers Coventry and Kent replacing the departing Scunthorpe and Rye House.
The make-up of the league was ratified at the Annual General Meeting in Rugby recently, with the forthcoming season’s rules and regulations also ratified.
The Hitmen have been drawn against 2012 runners-up Dudley in the National League Knockout Cup Quarter-Finals, which take place over two legs.
No decision has yet been made on whether Buxton will enter into the National League Trophy.
The Hitmen’s season is expected to get underway on Sunday April 21 with a challenge match.
The usual press and practice session is expected to take place the week before. Meanwhile, the club is still looking out for financial help to ensure its future.
Anyone who can help in any way is asked to contact the club through its official website www.buxtonhitmen.co.
