New Mills go down fighting

Unable to field a full squad, New Mills Women’s squash team was up against it from the start in their away match against Northern 3.

Joss Garvey played well, taking one game before eventually losing 3-1.

Di Howe looked to be following suit after losing the first two games of her match, but she rallied to take the next two and force a decider.

The final game seemed to be in the bag but her opponent started to fight back and steady nerves were needed to secure a 3-2 victory.

Linda Done had a real battle on her hands as she went down fighting 3-1.

And despite Jean Boston putting in her usual inimitable performance to win 3-0, the overall match was lost and the team had to return home with a miserable points score of 15-8.

New Mills’ next match is at home against Brooklands 2.
