Thirds hold on at Belper

Belper 3rds 2

Matlock Baileans 3rds 3

Matlock dominated play throughout, apart from a five-minute period where they lost concentration, which made for an interesting finale.

Matlock started well by playing good possession hockey, making progress down the wings with some early chances at goal.

This resulted in a number of penalty corners which saw Leyanne Beacham take her chance and calmly lift the ball over the Belper keeper.

Mary Repton found good positioning out on the right and Katy Price and Megan Wood battled well in midfield. It was from another penalty corner that Matlock extended the lead with Sally Spencer drilling home from the edge of the circle.

Matlock comfortably took their lead into the second half. Hollie Jones channelled the Belper attack to great effect, making an excellent start in her third team debut.

The game looked all over when Charlotte Kidd made it 3-0. Matlock then went to sleep allowing Belper to score two goals in quick succession.

Belper spirits had been raised and this saw them press the Matlock goal for a draw. The Matlock defence managed to hold out to see their team get the three points.

Charlotte Kidd was awarded the Man of the Match award.
