Two clean sheets in a row for Laburnum
Laburnum FC made it four league wins in a row with a 2-0 win away at Wingerworth Barley Mow.
With a scrappy beginning to the game, Laburnum took the lead at 13 minutes when a cross by Alex Cramp was converted by Martin Travis for a goal on his debut.
The away side grew into the game with Mellor’s pace on the left flank causing concern for the home side.
It wasn’t long before more chances were being created with both Toplis and Travis going close but the score line remained 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw Wingerworth start the better side, forcing some good saves from keeper Roberts.
But once again Laburnum grew into the game with Stokes in particular the stand out man by setting-up the second goal.
Stokes played an excellent ball behind the full back and into the path of Mellor – who lifted the ball over the on-rushing keeperinto the far corner of the net to make it 2-0 with 10 minutes remaining.
Wingerworth thought they had pulled one back with 5 minutes to go but the goal was judged to be offside.
Another excellent Laburnum performance cements their second league clean sheet in succession they take all three points home.
