Under 14s in fine win

Matlock RFC u14s 40

Chesterfield 0

Matlock produced another good display as they took on visitors Chesterfield.

Although the scoreline may look like a mismatch, it was not the case, especially in the scrum, as Matlock were under pressure from a strong pack.

Matlock quickly realised that the beating of Chesterfield was to be in the backs as the first try came from a strong run by Harry Boyd, who went over under the sticks.

This was quickly followed by a good score from Andrew Eastwood with Sam Page slotting the extra two points.

Just before half-time, the game was stopped for a period as Matlock scrum half James Marsden took a knock to the head. Thankfully, he was OK and the game continued.

The second half followed the pattern of the first with Matlock using quick ball from any scrum to feed the backs. John Statham, usually at number two, was moved out to the backs due to the first half injury and it wasn’t long until he went over to score.

Harry Boyd picked up his second and Will Molynieux went over for five points. The second half finished with Harry Boyd making his hat-trick. Sam Page kicked all four conversions.
