DERBYSHIRE Dales athletes put in performances to be proud of at the county schools track and field championships on Saturday.
Among the winners at Moorways Stadium were Highfields School and Matlock Athletics Club middle-distance runner Josh Moody, who streaked away to win the U17 boys 1500m in 4.09.20.

Yasmin Spencer, of Lady Manners School, was another comfortable winner in the U17 girls shot putt.

Yasmin, ranked number two in the UK in her age group, threw a championship best 12.18 metres to win by over three metres.

l MATLOCK Athletics Club’s Christine Howard is back racing on the fells again after she underwent toe surgery last autumn.

The operation was required after she broke a bone not by clattering down a mountainside but by stubbing her foot against a step while walking barefoot indoors.

She made a successful return to action last month, winning the British Police fell race, and she ventured over to Green Moor, near Stocksbridge, last weekend to assess her form.
