THE last team out emerged clear winners of Matlock Golf Club's Captain's Charity Am Am last Saturday.
Chris Roome, Mick Wain, James Wain and David Insley were the only team to pass the century mark, with their score of 102 winning by five clear points.
Paul Mooney, Les Mooney, Ian Thurlby and John Gibbons took runners up spot with 97 points, just
one ahead of Bob Vine, John Pearce, Peter Worthy and Anthony Worthy.
The ladies prize went to Mrs J Gascoigne, Mrs C Machent, Mrs J Munden and Mrs B Birtwhistle.
This years Captain's Charity is Ashgate Hospice and club captain Roger Hardy was in the winners enclosure together with Ann Hardy, Tony Cox and Gill Cox in the Players and Putters Competition played over 11 holes last Sunday.
l BAKEWELL’S annual men’s open was blessed by warm – even hot – summer weather which proved an exhausting physical challenge for golfers from all around the region.
The form of the competition was a better ball Stableford played in pairs.
The winners were Tom Fowler and Paul Knight from Brierley Forest with 49 points.
Paul, a 27 handicapper (playing off 18) and a comparative newcomer to golf, came in on 12 holes, including an 18in putt for a fine birdie three on the tough fourth hole, and a similar length putt on the 18th for another birdie three.
Second were Chris Singleton and Mark Pearson, also from Brierley Forest on a count-back with 42 points secured with seven birdies, including three twos.
Third were M. Jefford and A. Johnsey from Bulwell Forest with 42 points.
Fourth were K. Rampton from Maywood and T. Rampton from Stanton-on-the-Wolds on a count-back with 41 points.
Fifth were Paul Dungworth, a past captain of Bakewell Golf Club, and G. Connor from Renishaw also with 41 points.
Nearest the pin were D. Birrell at the fifth and J. Judge at the 18th, and the longest drive was hit by Ally Goodall.
The competition was most efficiently organised by Bob Straw, the club’s competition secretary.
