STANTON moved a step further away from trouble in the Sheaf Sports Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League Division One thanks once again to their talisman Nick Rosling.
Rosling struck 82 in Stanton’s innings against De La Salle at Pilhough Lane on Saturday, but his team mates added just 70 more to the total, setting a seemingly ‘gettable’ target.
But Rosling then proved more than useful with the ball, taking 3-56
, while Mick Clark claimed 2-32 to help stop DLS 14 runs short of their goal on 139 all out.
Division One leaders Parkhead had just a little too much for Ashford when the sides met in Sheffield on Saturday.
The hosts set 226 as the target, Simon Pass top-scoring with 56.
Alex Finney’s 50 could only help Ashford to 190 before they were all out, Rob Jeffrey taking 5-49 to keep Parkhead on top.
A severely-weakened Calver side were no match for the improving SWD.
Eddie Raper’s 6-9, backed up by Brad Sampson’s 4-6, tore through Calver for just 22, which included nine extras, a top score of six from Tom Hilton and six ducks.
Works didn’t need the 68 overs to chase down the total with all ten wickets still intact.
In Division Two, Grindleford had the same trouble as Calver.
With four key names missing from the Bridge Field outfit’s XI – including the in-form Tom Skelton and Tom Outram – Stocksbridge took advantage and whipped them out for 66, Joe Hibbert taking 5-22.
The Yorkshiremen’s ruthless victory was secured without the loss of a single wicket.
Youlgreave Lodge firsts also lost out against Centralians.
Batting first, Lodge trudged on to 91-9 with Kieron Thomkin the pick of the Cents attack, taking 5-25.
Ricky Podmore top-scored with 26.
In reply, 4-18 from Trevor Fiddler was a good return, but not good enough for Lodge as they lost out by four wickets.
Hathersage firsts restored some pride for the Peak villages.
Their innings closed on 198-6 with important contributions coming from Joe Woolway (49) and John Beatson (47).
Eugene Henderson then did the damage with the ball, taking 4-9 to halt Millhouses firsts on 105.
In Division Three, James Sen’s 64 allowed Baslow firsts to set SWD II a competitive 192-7.
