ANDY Proffitt showed why he was the clear favourite to win Matlock Cycling Club's Open 50 by setting a course record on Sunday.
Scratchman Proffitt, of Arctic-Premier Racing Team, was a convincing victor in one hour, 53minutes and 29 seconds.
Richard Cordin was the first Matlock rider home, finishing in second place, two minutes and 32 seconds behind Proffitt, in 1.56.01 to take the Matlock Club 50 Championship.
Alan West, of Rutland CC, was the first veteran 60-69 home in third place, just behind Cordin, with 1.56.37.
Matlock’s Chris Green was fourth, a further minute back, and also first 40-49 veteran.
First lady home was Vicky Dawson, also of Matlock, who finished 13th overall in 2.13.08, a new personal best.
The other Matlock finishers were Steve Strange, John White and Carl Dyke who recorded 2.09.15, 2.13.45 and 2.15.37 respectively, Strange and Dyke riding the event for the first time.
Matlock also took the team prize by virtue of Cordin, Green and Strange’s finishes.
The Club 10 attracted 25 riders, in spite of the wet conditions, and this time Richard Cordin got the better of Peter Colledge, reversering last week’s top two.
Cordin, riding fixed gear into a strong north westerly wind, recorded 22.53.
Colledge was just seven seconds behind in 23.00.
Chris Green was third in 23.11 and guest rider Daryl May, of Sheffrec RC, finished fourth just over a minute back in 24.12.
Twelve-year-old Patrick Smart recorded a new personal best despite the slow conditions to finish in 33.13, beating his previous best by 35 seconds.
Fourteen riders took advantage of favourable conditions to post fast times in the 10.4-mile long hilly time trial from Cromford Station on Thursday, with Chris Green setting the fastest. Back from a week away and clearly refreshed, Chris went under the 28 minute barrier for the first time this year to record a season’s best of 27.50.
After his win last week Steve Heading had to settle for second place with 28.15, despite recording a personal best.
Also recording a PB was cyclo-cross rider Leigh Fearn who posted 28.38 despite riding his cross bike with 28mm tyres and 46 front tooth chainring.
International junior mountain biker Annie Last set her fastest time this year to post 33.07, almost a two minute improvement on last week, and Patrick Smart also set a new fastest time, going 2.26 quicker to finish in 40.47.
Chris Green reclaimed top spot in the points competition with third and first place in the Club 10 and long hilly respectively, and now leads Peter Colledge by five points after 25 events.
The evening 10s are now well underway and take place on Tuesdays from Church Lane in Darley Dale, and the long hillys take place on Thursdays from Cromford Station. Both start at 7pm. For more information about Matlock CC go online at www.
