VETERAN Aran Stanton was a comfortable winner in Matlock Cycling Club's Grouse 10 Open last week.
The VC St Raphael rider crossed the line in 21 minutes and 36 seconds, 15 seconds quicker than Rutland’s Marc Mallender, with Nottingham Clarion rider Darren Buckby a further 20 seconds behind.

First lady was another veteran, Long Eaton’s Jill Bro
wn, 45th overall in a field of 61 in a time of 28.24, 24 seconds up on team mate Gill Henshaw.

The fastest Matlock rider was Richard Cordin, fifth in 22.24, just two seconds quicker than club mate Peter Colledge.

Chris Green was 11th in 22.47 to wrap up the team prize for Matlock.

Quickest handicap rider was Derby Mercury’s Andy Eagers, followed by Belper’s Jonathan Marshall and Matlock’s Dominic Wibberley.

Junior rider Emily Thoday, also of Matlock, completed the course in 33.51.

In the club 10, just 24 hours prior to the Grouse, Chris Green had cruised to victory ahead of a field of just 13 riders. Green won in the season’s slowest club 10 time of 24.04, having eased up after catching his minute man, cyclo-cross rider Leigh Fearn, who recorded 25.17 to finish second, which was marginally quicker than his previous best.

Among the small field, a number of new and old faces joined last week’s ten, with Mike Browell and Stuart Gascoigne riding the event for the first time and recording 28.45 and 29.29 respectively.

Chris Green picked up a second victory on Thursday, this time in the 10.4-mile long hilly.

A combination of aching legs and football on TV meant just ten riders turned out for the fifth long hilly, with Chris Green, Steve Strange, Chris Sharp and John White all competing despite having completed the Open ‘10’ the night before.

In spite of taking part in his third time-trial in three days Green recorded his second fastest time of the season to comfortably win in 28.13, beating his nearest challenger, Kevin White, by a full two minutes.

Chris Green has extended his points competition lead over Peter Colledge and has 586 points from 28 events.
