ASHFORD returned to winning ways with a three-wicket win over Holmesfield in the Sheaf Sports Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League Division One on Saturday.
Oliver Rossington’s 83 helped Holmesfield to 175 all out, while Ben Carr returned impressive bowling figures of 4-12.

In Ashford’s reply, Jonathan Wilson hit 64 and Ralph Wilson 57 not out en route to victory.

The number six cropped up a bit too much for Calver’s liking this week.

After taking six wickets against Ashford last week, Edward Coxhead scored 66 with the bat this time around against leaders Parkhead firsts.

However, six Calver batsmen were out for ducks in an innings halted on 165 all out.

Parkhead reached 166 with six wickets intact.

Lee Tann’s 39 was the best individual score in Stanton’s 122-7.

Sheffield University Staff firsts’ Mayank Sharma scored 76 in his side’s winning total of 123-3.

In Division Two, Grindleford’s Simon Buchan took 8-58 as Millhouses completed their knock on 169-9.

But the Derwent Valley promotion chasers could only muster 105 in response.

Youlgrave Lodge also came up short with just 110 in answer to second-placed Ridgeway’s 156, which included 50 from Kevin Roberts and 5-51 from Dan Greengrass.

Better luck for Hathersage firsts, who only needed 103 to beat Sheepbridge.

Billy Kendal (44 not out) and Andy Johnson (49 not out) steered Hathersage to a ten-wicket win.

Bakewell can thank their skipper for a change in fortunes as 55 not out from captain Roy Peach inspired them to their first win for some time.

In fact it was a 70-run demolition of Sheffield Transport spearheaded by Richard Reed, who took 5-34.

In Division Four, Richard Percival was unbeaten on 57 as the scoreboard confirmed that Hathersage seconds had defeated Whittington Wanderers seconds by seven wickets.

Tony Sadler’s undefeated 140 took him to the top of the league’s batting average table as Baslow seconds had the better of their derby against Ashford seconds.

Philip Wilson took 4-93 for Ashford, but his figures looked a tad generous compared to Baslow’s Michael Booker, who conceded just 12 runs from 15 overs, taking two wickets in the process.

Youlgrave Lodge seconds enjoyed the tightest win of the day.

All out for 106, Lodge then had Stocksbridge seconds safely tucked up in the pavilion for just 99, thanks mainly to Ron Endersby’s 4-17.

l CALVER’S Tom Hilton was named as YDCL player of the month for April/ May after the opener cracked 190 not out against Hundall, setting a new amateur record for the league.
