A 26-year-old man from Chesterfield has been jailed for killing a man with a single punch to the face.
Jordan Maltby punched Phillip Allen once in the face during a disagreement about bottles of alcohol on June 27, 2019, outside his home in Highfield Lane.
Mr Allen suffered multiple fractures to his face as a result of Maltby’s punch and collapsed to the floor. As he fell backwards he banged his head on the kerb causing another serious fracture to his skull.
After being rushed to hospital it was found Mr Allen had a bleed on the brain and he was placed in an induced coma. Tragically, after three weeks, he died as a result of the injuries sustained in the assault.
Maltby, 26, of Gloucester Road, Stonegravels, was initially charged with the murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He appeared at Derby Crown Court on March 5, where he was handed seven years and four months in prison for the manslaughter of Mr Allen and was given a further five year extended licence period due to the danger the judge decided he posed. A man has been jailed for 10 years and six months after he pleaded guilty to a series of sexual offences against two teenaged girls.
Tobias Yates was sentenced at Derby Crown Court, on March 6, after admitting 14 crimes against two victims, spanning a six-year-period between 2013 and 2019.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15, eight counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13-17 when he was abusing a position of trust, abusing a position of trust – causing or inciting sexual activity with a girl aged 13-17 and two counts of making an indecent image of a child.
Eight of the charges relate to one girl while five of the charges relate to a second.

Nathan Peter Cahill, 24, of Green Street, Old Whittington, pleaded guilty to robbery at a hearing at Derby Crown Court.
He was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £181. Photo: Derbyshire Times
Wayne Dolan, 44, of Seymour Street, Manchester, pleaded guilty to theft, assault and going equipped at Morrison’s in Buxton.
